OrthoGrid Case Study: Making the Most of a 400 Sq. Ft Exhibit

October 8, 2021 by Divinitas Displays

400 Sq. Ft Exhibit

In the bustling world of trade shows, every square foot of exhibit space is a premium. For many companies, the challenge isn’t just about showing up—it’s about making a monumental impact within a modest footprint. This was the exact challenge faced by OrthoGrid Systems, a leading provider of intraoperative alignment technologies based in Salt Lake City, as they prepared for the 2021 AAOS show. Their goal was to make the most of a 400-square-foot booth space (20×20 feet), creating a dynamic and memorable experience that would pack a punch. This case study explores how Divinitas Designs & Displays transformed this modest space into a powerhouse of brand engagement, proving that creativity and strategic design can overcome any spatial limitations.

The Challenge: Max Brand Impact in a Modest Space

OrthoGrid Systems specializes in creating procedure-specific musculoskeletal applications for total hip arthroplasty (THA), hip preservation, and trauma. Their technology is complex and requires hands-on demonstration. Therefore, their trade show booth needed to be more than just a display; it needed to be a functional, welcoming environment where they could showcase their innovative products and connect with attendees. The central problem was how to achieve this without the luxury of a large, sprawling exhibit. They needed to maximize brand impact, highlight their products effectively, and provide a comfortable space for demonstrations and conversations, all within a 20×20-foot area.

Creative and Cost-Effective Solutions: The Divinitas Approach

At Divinitas, we believe that space limitations are an opportunity, not a constraint. We approached the OrthoGrid project with a focus on smart design, visual dominance, and user-centric functionality. Our team worked to craft a solution that not only met but exceeded OrthoGrid’s expectations, showcasing that a creative and cost-effective solutions approach can deliver exceptional results. We identified several key elements that would allow OrthoGrid to stand out from the crowd and create a lasting impression.

Visual Dominance: Reaching for the Sky

To overcome the spatial limitations of the floor plan, we decided to go vertical. Our design incorporated two imposing 16-foot towers, which served as powerful visual anchors for the booth. These towers were not just structural—they were canvases for large-format graphics that prominently featured OrthoGrid’s branding and key messaging. The height of the towers ensured that the booth was visible from a distance, drawing attendees in from across the show floor. In addition to the towers, we designed an imposing 20×20-foot hanging sign that hovered above the space. This strategic use of height created a powerful, eye-level presence that no one could miss, establishing OrthoGrid’s dominance in the space. The combination of the towers and the hanging sign created a strong vertical presence that made the booth feel much larger than its actual footprint.

Functional Design: Merging Form and Function

A great exhibit must be more than just visually appealing; it must be highly functional. The 16-foot towers were designed with a dual purpose: in addition to their visual impact, they provided ample, hidden storage space. This clever use of verticality allowed the booth to remain uncluttered and professional, while all necessary materials and equipment were kept close at hand. This was a critical component of our creative and cost-effective solutions for OrthoGrid. By integrating storage into the primary design elements, we maximized the available floor space for product displays and attendee interaction. The exhibit configuration was carefully planned to allow the display and demonstration of three large products. The layout was open and inviting, encouraging attendees to walk in and engage with the technology directly.

Personalized Touches: Making the Space Welcoming

One of the most unique elements of the OrthoGrid exhibit was the custom-printed flooring. This wasn’t just a standard carpet; it featured the company logo in a distinctive, eye-catching pattern. This detail added a layer of personalization and brand reinforcement that made the booth feel cohesive and professional from the ground up. Beyond the branding, we focused on creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Comfortable seating was integrated into the design, providing a place for attendees to sit and relax while engaging in deeper conversations with the OrthoGrid team. Integrated lighting was used to highlight key product areas and create a vibrant, energetic feel. To soften the industrial look of the exhibit and add a touch of nature, assorted plants were strategically placed throughout the space. These elements came together to make the booth a genuinely inviting place where visitors felt comfortable and engaged, transforming a simple exhibit into a memorable brand experience.

Results: A Big Impact on a Small Scale

The success of the OrthoGrid project at the 2021 AAOS show is a testament to the power of thoughtful, creative design. By thinking vertically and focusing on smart, multi-purpose solutions, we were able to help OrthoGrid achieve a significant brand presence in a modest space. The exhibit not only showcased their products effectively but also created an inviting environment that fostered meaningful connections with industry professionals. This case study is a prime example of how Divinitas provides creative and cost-effective solutions that protect and maximize our clients’ exhibit investments, even in the face of changing or uncertain market conditions.
