Picture a convention hall packed with fire apparatus, turnout gear, drone demos, and wall-to-wall LED video. Now picture a booth that makes you slow down precisely because it isn’t shouting. That was the Peregrine exhibit at Fire-Rescue International 2026 in Kansas City a few weeks ago, and it’s a great example of a principle we preach constantly: on a noisy show floor, calm is a competitive advantage.
Here’s a walk-up to the booth, nestled between the fire trucks:
What Is FRI?
Fire-Rescue International (FRI) is the annual conference and expo of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), and it’s the premier leadership event for the fire and EMS community. The IAFC has been gathering fire service leaders since 1873, and today FRI draws thousands of fire and EMS chiefs, chief officers, and company officers from across North America and around the world.
FRI 2026 ran August 12 through 14 at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Alongside education sessions on leadership, EMS, career development, and emerging topics like artificial intelligence in the fire service, the expo floor is where departments come to evaluate what they’ll deploy next. Hundreds of exhibitors show apparatus and specialty vehicles, firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment, communications and dispatch technology, drones, and software.
That’s a demanding environment for an exhibitor. The audience is experienced and skeptical. The competition is loud, bright, and often literally the size of a fire engine. And the buyers are chiefs and command staff who value clarity and credibility over spectacle.
Who Is Peregrine?
Peregrine builds an operational AI platform for public safety organizations. Their tagline is “Context changes everything,” and that’s the job the product does: it connects disconnected data across fire and rescue, EMS, law enforcement, emergency management, and 911 so agencies can see the full picture in real time. At FRI 2026, Peregrine also took the Discovery Stage with a session on turning operational data into actionable insights for first responder wellness. In other words, Peregrine’s ideal buyer walks the FRI floor.
For a platform company like this, the booth has one central task. It needs to create space for a real conversation and a hands-on demonstration, without the environment getting in the way of the story.
The Design: Muted, Warm, and Built for Flow
Walk the FRI aisles and you’ll see a lot of the same visual language: red and chrome apparatus, high-contrast graphics, saturated brand colors, and screens competing with screens. The Peregrine booth went the other direction on purpose.
Muted colors and natural wood accents. The palette is restrained and the wood brings warmth that you almost never see in a fire service technology exhibit. The effect is a display that reads as confident and premium. Next to the noisy displays around it, the booth feels like a place you’d actually want to stand and talk. That contrast is the whole point. When everything around you is loud, the quiet booth is the one that draws the eye. This is the same thinking behind the design-driven exhibits we’ve written about before.
Room to discuss and demonstrate. The layout was designed around how conversations actually happen at a show like this. There’s open space for an attendee to step in from the aisle, room for a small group to gather around a demo, and enough breathing room that a busy moment doesn’t become a bottleneck. Our goal was maximum flow: easy in, easy through, and no dead corners. If you’re planning a booth around live software demos and heavy traffic, our guide to managing demos and heavy traffic at tech trade shows goes deeper on the layout principles.
LED lighting that lifts the whole display. Convention hall lighting is uneven at best, and a crowded aisle can leave a booth looking dim and flat. Integrated LED lighting brightens the Peregrine display so the wood tones, the graphics, and the demo screens all read cleanly from the aisle. Good lighting is one of the least expensive ways to make an exhibit look more expensive, and it’s easy to overlook until you’re standing under a hall’s fluorescents.
Designed, Built, and Packed for the Road
A booth that looks great in a rendering only counts if it looks great on show day, and the show-day experience starts long before the doors open. Our team designed, fabricated, and packed this exhibit so that installation and dismantle are fast and predictable. That matters for the client’s budget (labor hours on the floor add up quickly), for the client’s stress level, and for the exhibit’s lifespan as it moves from show to show.
That end-to-end approach, from concept through fabrication, logistics, install, and dismantle, is what we mean when we talk about our trade show exhibit services. And it’s what we back with the Divinitas Certainty™ program: transparent communication, on-time delivery, and no surprises.
Great job to our team on this one.
Three Lessons for Fire Service and Public Safety Exhibitors
- Don’t compete on volume. If your neighbors are fire trucks and video walls, you won’t out-shout them. Out-design them instead. A distinctive, calm environment stands out precisely because it’s different.
- Design the conversation, not just the structure. Decide how many people need to be in the booth at once, where demos happen, and how attendees move through. Then let the layout serve that. Flow sells.
- Plan for the crate as carefully as the aisle. How an exhibit packs, ships, installs, and breaks down affects your cost at every show. Build that in from day one.
Exhibiting at FRI 2027 or Another Public Safety Show?
FRI 2027 is set for August 18 through 20 at the Anaheim Convention Center, and the fire, EMS, and public safety calendar is full of shows where these same principles apply. If you’re preparing an exhibit for a chiefs-and-command-staff audience, we’d love to help you design a booth that earns attention without begging for it.
